The first events in Britain this year, and wow, weren’t they good fun. We played 3 matches on the Tour, against St Austell GC, against Truro GC and against Perranporth GC and were treated to a right royal welcome at all of them. Even the weather played ball for us – despite all the forecasts. Click here to read The Captain’s full report of the events.

Day 1 JBGS members met up at St Austell GC to catch up with each other before going out for a 4BBB match with mixed and men’s fourballs.

After the match, both teams got together for a photo opportunity, and the winners on the day were the JBGS.

Day 2 was at Truro GC where we were treated to the delights of some hickory golfers in the opposition. Our side reckoned they struggled enough with modern clubs so resisted the invitation to follow suit.

After a stern warning from the Captain, and with our luck running out and with the opposition’s good use of home advantage Truro won the match. The Captain was relieved to be back in familiar territory and to his old, familiar speech.

Day 3 we went to Perranporth on a lovely sunny day. The welcome was wonderful, the views were spectacular, what could possibly go wrong?

Despite this boost from the weather, and after ‘advice’ that we could expect a different, if not to say tough test of golf, it was back to business as usual. Perranporth won by 13 points. This match was played as a 4BBB individual Stableford with the best score to count. The format was much enjoyed as it keeps all the match going to the end.

What a wonderful time we had in Cornwall, great welcomes by the clubs who were all interested in knowing what the JBGS is all about. Great fellowship and fun on fabulous golf courses and in the club house. A great time was had by all during a very successful tour. Thank you and well done everyone.
