East Anglia Tour: Colchester GC

JBGS Society Day

Founded in 1907 this tree-lined course was designed by James Braid. Colchester Golf Club’s fast-running, well established fairways provide a great test of golf. There are around 70 bunkers to catch out any wayward shots and the subtly-contoured greens run fast and slick all year round. What a challenge!

An exhibition match between Braid and Taylor was held in July 1910 to celebrate the opening of the revised course after further work was required and Braid was called back. He was called back again in 1935 with S Parmenter after more land became available for further changes, which still remain. The course measures 6,320 yards, par 70, from the white tees and 5718 yards, par 73 from the red tees.

Meet in golf attire at 11.00am. The format of the day will be an Individual Stableford. Tee times from 12.00noon. The event fee is £50 to include golf, and post event sandwiches. Pre-event refreshments at members’ own cost. Dress code casual.
