What a welcome we got in the Highlands, blue skies, little wind and courses in wonderful condition with loads of run on the ball. Don’t they all look fantastic and so inviting? No excuses then this year! Click here for the Captain’s full report.

However, there were possible fineable activities going on before we even got started – practising on the course was spotted on Tuesday 21 June. These were the culprits caught in the act –

Denny, Robert, William and David – all set for a father and son match

With coaching help from past Captain Peter Stanbrook
Day 1 – June 22 – the match against Fortrose and Rosemarkie at their course for the first time since 2019.
Could we remember our way round? Could we pull off a great win making the Captain rewrite his speech?

So how did it all go? Can we tell from the presentations?

Despite fantastic efforts from the JBGS members, who all reported having had great fun in their matches, our Captain only had to deal with the familiar result. Well played Fortrose and Rosemarkie. Although, a whitewash was a realistic possibility, 2 halved matches saved the day. And, the good news is that we understand that despite our performance, we will be invited back next year! Now that is a real result.
Day 2 – June 23 – the always popular match against Royal Dornoch GC with the early start time of 8.20am as there was a large group arriving later in the day from a cruise ship. Hopes were high this year in the expectation that the star home players would be busy with the visitors.

David and Harold took on Mark and Tony

Leighton and Max with Gail and Debbie
Royal Dornoch brought out their big guns at last – leaving nothing to chance, some ladies, nicknamed the ‘Dornoch Assassins’ brought up the rear guard to keep the JBGS members on their toes. The JBGS ladies, without any opponents, very sensibly brought up the rear in a nice, relaxed, friendly fourball. it was all great fun.

So onto the post match meal and the results.

Ah well, a wonderful time, as always, was had by all. The Friendship Trophy stayed at Royal Dornoch GC and the JBGS results stayed intact with a win by Royal Dornoch GC by 8 – 2. Very well done – but can we come back for next year please?
Day 3 – June 24 – The Founding Meeting – the JBGS stableford which EVERYBODY WANTS TO WIN. And which Brora did we find today?

All three I think, and it was in fabulous condition, sunny with no wind, just wonderful to be out there with friends and fellow competitors. These were the groups, by request, in no particular order.

but thanks for the photographs.
After the golf, there was a very successful dinner in the evening held at Brora GC.

After the excellent meal, the prize giving, the toast, the fines and the speeches.
And the prizes went to:

Winner – Tony Gill

Runner up – Ben Harrison

Winner – Bozena Torkington

Runner up – Angela Grant

John Rankin for the best front 9

The prizegiving ended with a new award – Hero of the Tour and the very worthy winner was Duncan Robertson for going the extra mile – who was not able to be present to collect his award.
Following this Barrie raised a toast to absent friends who were either no longer with us or not able to be with us. Malcolm then presented the Captain with a signed copy of Bob Charles’ biography.

Then the Sheriff appeared, much to the amusement of the assembled audience, to dole out fines for any misdemeanor.

Those present were then invited to provide entertainment to everyone if they wanted to. Two brave souls took advantage of the situation.

And finally, the captain closed the evening with a toast to the man we gathered to honour – “James Braid.”

So very sorry we couldn’t attend this year. Looking at the photos is making us weep 😂 Looking forward to seeing you next year, hopefully……
Our country is going down the drain sadly, might have to sell something and bury the proceeds in the backyard to afford our trip.
We hope you all missed us!
Love Vanessa and Ross Kelly…….from Australia 🇦🇺
Great photos and memories – going back in September subject to Doctors orders. Len
